(ich.unesco.org) About the city The festival takes place in Vientiane – the calm and welcoming capital of Laos, located on the banks of the Mekong River. The city combines ancient Buddhist temples, French colonial architecture and a modern urban environment. Among the most famous landmarks are the golden stupa Pha That Luang, Patuxai - the Lao "Arc de Triomphe", as well as the numerous markets, parks and cultural centers that make Vientiane one of the most attractive places for cultural tourism in the region. (Tourism Laos) Objectives of the festival The International Folklore Festival "Land of Million Elephants - Lan Xang" aims to promote friendship and cultural exchange between peoples through music, dance and traditional arts. The festival provides an opportunity for groups from different countries to present their cultural heritage, exchange creative ideas and build new international partnerships. The event contributes to the promotion of intangible cultural heritage, the development of cultural tourism and the affirmation of the values of mutual respect, peace and understanding between peoples. Climate and weather Laos has a tropical monsoon climate with distinct dry and rainy seasons. Thanks to the warm weather throughout the year, the country is an attractive destination for cultural tourism and international festivals. February is one of the best months to visit. The weather is dry, sunny and pleasant, with daytime temperatures around 28–32°C and nighttime temperatures around 18–22°C. Humidity is relatively low, making the conditions excellent for concerts, parades and outdoor festival events. November marks the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the cool dry season. Nature is fresh and green, and temperatures are very comfortable – 27–31°C during the day and 20–24°C at night. Precipitation is now rare, which creates favorable conditions for cultural events, tourist tours and outdoor meetings. During both periods, participants can expect warm and pleasant weather, suitable both for the festival program and for exploring the rich cultural and natural heritage of Laos.
