Purpose and objectives:

  • International Folklore Festival "Keeping traditions" (hereinafter Festival) is held to promote folk art, to keep the multinational cultural heritage of Russia, to identify the best folk performers, to improve the professional skills of art directors and teachers.
  • The festival is a place where talented people from all over the world meet each other to make friends and share their experiences. The festival promotes intercultural dialogue between the folk collectives from different countries as well as brings the younger generation up in the spirit of patriotism and tolerance to cultural traditions and customs of another ethnos.

Terms of the contest:

We invite folk groups and soloists aged 6 years and older to participate in the festival.
Categories:
I          Choreography (ensembles from 7 to 20 dancers)
II         Vocal (soloists, ensembles from 2 to 12 singers, choirs from 13 singers)
III       Instrumental Performance of Folk Music
IY       Theatre Art (musical and dance groups, amateur theaters, fashion-theatres, oral folk art, declamation, etc.)
Age categories:
Junior: 6-13 years
Middle: 14-17 years
Adult: over 17 years
In each age group, the performers of another age are admitted but not more than 30% of the total number of performers.

Mandatory requirements:

  • The participation in the festival-contest means the participation in one contest category and one age category.
  • The competition program includes a performance of 2 various works up to 3 minutes each. At the same time the soloists and small forms (up to 3 participants) perform 1 work up to 5 minutes. In the categories “theatre art” and “instrumental performance of folk art” the ensembles can present 1 work up to 10 minutes. If you exceed this time, the jury has the right to stop the track.
  • The program may include authentic folklore or modern arrangements of folk arts based on folklore material of any country or region.
  • Vocal competition works should be accompanied by phonogram "minus-one" or live music. A cappella performance is encouraged. The vocal groups up to 12 singers will present three and four voices performance, and duets - two voices performance.
  • Phonogram should be recorded on a CD or USB and are to be sent via e-mail up to the 10th of November.
  • It is not allowed to use lighting effects during the performances.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Technique -80 points
  • Artistic impression (image, disclosure of the content, emotions, artistry) - 80 points
  • Presentation (costume, props, stage direction, selection of repertoire, stage design) -70 points
  • Difficulty of the performance -  70 points

Jury:

  • The international jury consists of culture and art experts, representatives of creative and public organizations.
  • Contestants are evaluated by a jury of 80 and 70-point scale according to the amount of points. Each member of the jury has the right to vote and holding discussions prior to a decision by all the members of the jury.
  • Chairman of the jury is entitled to 2 votes in the event of dispute.
  • The jury does not take into account age, material standing, social class, nationality and place of residence of the contestants - only creativity on absolutely equal terms in accordance with this Regulation.
  • The jury may decide to cancel the contest on one of the categories specified in this Regulation, due to the insufficient number of applications filed.
  • The jury's decision is final and non-negotiable.

Awards:

  • Awarding will be held during the closing ceremony of the festival.
  • In each category and age group winners are assigned to Laureates of I, II, III degrees, and diplomants of I, II, III degrees.
  • Grand Prix is ​​awarded to only one of the winners of the 1st Prize, who will get the highest number of votes of the members of the jury, but not less than 51%.
  • Grand Prix winner is awarded by 20000 rubles.
  • Each team is awarded a diploma; each participant receives a souvenir of the festival.
  • The leaders of groups and pedagogues will receive official Letters of Thanks.
  • According to the results of the contest the following special prizes are to be awarded:
  1. “The best singer” - the Prize of opera singer Ayuna Bazarsadaeva - 10000 rubles;
  2. “Audience Award” – 5000 rubles;
  3. “The Best National Costume”;
  4. “Preservation of Folk Traditions”;
  5. “Propaganda of the World Culture”.
  6. The Laureates of the festival may be awarded by EAFF certificates of 200-500 euro to participate in the European/World Championship of Folklore.
  • Any organization or individual may establish its own special awards or prizes.
  • The jury reserves the right not to award prizes and change the number of awards.
  • At the discretion of the jury, the best ensembles and soloists may be invited to participate in folk festivals on a preferential or complimentary base.
  • The leaders of groups are required to attend the closing ceremony of the festival. After closing the festival diplomas and other awards are not available.

Participation fee:

Festival fee is 170 euro per person

Participation fee includes:

  • 3 nights accommodation in TRPL rooms at 3* park-hotel with all amenities. The hotel is located on the bank of Klyazma river. There are indoor swimming-pool, sauna, gym, barbeque, horse-riding and other activities.
  • Full board (1st day lunch+dinner, 4th day breakfast), set-menu.
  • Moscow city sightseeing guided tour by bus.
  • Transportation to the concert venues, if necessary.
  • Participation in one category of the contest.
  • Festival souvenirs, diplomas and prizes.
  • On a group of 15 participants, every 16 (group leader) is free of charge.

Participation fee doesn’t include:

  • Escort by a coach from airport to the hotel and back. The cost of transfer depends on the size of a group, time of arrival and location of a terminal.
To participate in additional categories artists should pay participation fee:
  • Soloists, duets – 22 euro.
  • Other participants 11 euro per person.
Approved groups pay in advance a 10% guarantee fee, which is to be deducted at the final payment. As a next step 30% in advance to the main organizer of the festival. In case of refusal to participate in the festival the advance paymenr is not refunded. 

Travel terms:

  • Every participant should cover the expense of the international flight to and from Moscow.
  • Every participant of the festival must have Travel Insurance to cover medical and accidental coverage during the period of the festival.
  • Each participating group is responsible for its own visa to Russia.
  • The date of arrival for participating groups to Moscow is November 17, 2017 by 14:00 afternoon.
  • The departure time from Moscow is November 20, 2017 by 12:00 afternoon.
  • Participants may extend their stay in Moscow or Saint-Petersburg at an extra fee.

Other terms

  • By their participation in the festival, collectives and soloists give their consent to the right to record their performances on audio/video and broadcast them on television channels or use by other means.
  • For participants wishing to visit the tour sights of Moscow, guided tours are organized upon preliminary requests.

Registration procedure.
Opening of the III IFF "Keeping traditions”. Presentation of groups up to10 minutes (costumes are necessary).

November 18
Moscow city sightseeing tour.
Competitive performances.
Friendship party. Master-classes. Folk groups are welcome to present and teach their country’s song or dance. Gift-exchange.

November 19
Competitive performances.
Closing Ceremony of the III IFF "Keeping traditions". Gala concert. Awarding.

November 20
Check out. Departure of the participants.
 
Any group willing to participate must submit an Application form.
Approved groups pay in advance a 10% guarantee fee, which is to be deducted at the final payment.
As a next step - 30% in advance directly to the main organizer.
