Purpose and objectives:

International Folklore Festival "Keeping traditions" (hereinafter Festival) is held to promote folk art and preserve the cultural heritage. The festival is a place where folklore lovers from all over the world meet each other to make friends and share their culture. The festival promotes the development of intercultural dialogue between the folk artists from different countries as well as upbringing the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism and tolerance to cultural traditions and customs of another ethnos.
The festival has a competitive nature and enables participants to present their achievements in the field of music, singing, dancing, rituals and customs.

Terms of the contest:

We invite vocal, dance, instrumental folk groups, soloists and duets to participate in the festival.
Every group may participate in the fair on handicrafts with their crafts products from native region.
The groups can participate both in a contest and in a public concerts with a programme not exceeding 15 minutes.
All participants of the festival should pay their travel expenses to and from St. Petersburg.
The Organizing Committee organizes hotel accommodation as well as arranges meals and excursions.

Contest categories:

I Folk dance (traditional and stylized) - solo, duets, trios, ensembles, collectives.
II Authentic vocal, folk vocal - soloists, duets, trios, ensembles (from 4 to 13 participants), choirs (more than 13 participants).
III Modern arrangement of folk songs (in any genre: classical academic singing, pop singing, jazz, etc.) - soloists, duets, trios, ensembles (from 4 to 13 participants), choirs (more than 13 participants).
IV Folk instruments (orchestras, ensembles and soloists)
V Modern instrumental ensembles and ethno-folk groups
VI Theatrical work (miniatures, excerpts from performances, excerpts from musicals, excerpts from ballets, oral folk art, declamation, puppet theater, musical theater).
VII Fashion Theaters
VIII Mixed genre (vocal-instrumental, vocal-dancing, instrumental-dance, vocal-instrumental and dance) - soloists, duets, trios, ensembles (from 4 to 13 participants), choirs (more than 13 participants).

Age categories:

Junior: 6-13 years
Middle: 14-17 years
Youth: 18 - 30 years
Adult: 31 years and over
In each age group, the performers of another age are admitted but not more than 30% of the total number of performers.

Mandatory requirements:

  • The participation in the festival-contest means the participation in one contest category and one age category.
  • The competition program includes a performance of 2 various works up to 3 minutes each. At the same time the soloists and duets perform 1 work up to 5 minutes.
  • In the category "folk instruments", "modern instrumental ensembles and ethno-folk groups", "theatrical creativity", "fashion theaters", "mixed genre" the participants can present 1 work up to 8 minutes. If you exceed this time, the jury has the right to stop the track.
  • The program may include authentic folklore or modern arrangements of folk arts based on folklore material of any country or region.
  • Vocal competition works should be accompanied by phonogram "minus-one" or live music. A cappella performance is encouraged.
  • The vocal groups up to 12 singers will present three and four voices performance, and duets - two voices performance.
  • Participants should send in advance phonograms by e-mail, and also bring them on a flash drive or CD (each track on a separate CD).
  • It is not allowed to use lighting effects during the performances.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Technique – 10 points
  • Artistic impression (image, disclosure of the content, emotions, artistry) - 10 points
  • Presentation (costume, props, stage direction, selection of repertoire, stage design) -10 points
  • Difficulty of the performance - 10 points

Jury:

The international jury consists of culture and art experts, representatives of creative and public organizations.
Each member of the jury has the right to vote and holding discussions prior to a decision by all the members of the jury.
Chairman of the jury is entitled to 2 votes in the event of dispute.
The jury does not take into account age, material standing, social class, nationality and place of residence of the contestants - only creativity on absolutely equal terms in accordance with this Regulation.
The jury may decide to cancel the contest on one of the categories specified in this Regulation, due to the insufficient number of applications filed.
The jury's decision is final and non-negotiable.

Awards:

The accumulating of Awarding Foundation is entrusted to the Festival Organizing Committee. Any organization or individual can make charitable contributions to the festival and establish their special awards and prizes.
In each category and age group winners are assigned to Laureates of I, II, III degrees, and diploma holders of I, II, III degrees.
The Grand Prix is awarded to only one of the winners of the 1st Prize among children from 6 to 17 years old and one of the winners of the 1st Prize among adults aged 18 and older, who will get the highest number of votes of jury members, but not less than 51%.
Grand Prix winner is awarded by a cup and Prize of the festival sponsors.
The laureates are awarded a cup and a diploma, the diploma holders are awarded a diploma.
Each team/soloist is awarded a diploma; each participant receives a souvenir of the festival.
The leaders of groups and pedagogues will receive official Letters of Thanks.
According to the results of the contest the following special prizes are to be awarded:

✓ For the Best Choreography
✓ For Artistry
✓ For the Best Folk Costume
✓ For the Preservation of Folk Traditions
At the discretion of the jury, the best ensembles and soloists may be invited to participate in folk festivals on a preferential or complimentary base.
The Laureates of the festival may be granted by EAFF certificates of 200-500 euro to participate in the European/World Championship of Folklore.
The jury reserves the right not to award prizes and change the number of awards.
Awarding will be held during the closing ceremony of the festival.
The leaders of groups are required to attend the closing ceremony of the festival. After closing the festival diplomas and other awards are not available.

Participation fee:

Festival Package №1: 210 EUR per person (4* hotel in the center of the city, BB)
Festival Package №1 includes:
  • 4 nights accommodation in DBL/TWIN rooms at 4* hotel with own bathroom
  • 4 buffet breakfast, 1 friendship party dinner
  • St. Petersburg city sightseeing guided tour by bus
  • Airport-hotel-airport transfer
  • Participation in public concerts with other groups
  • Transportation to the concert venues, if necessary
  • Participation in one category of the contest
  • Festival souvenirs, diplomas and prizes.
  • One free leader for a group of 21 participants (20+1)
Festival Package №2: 245 EUR per person (4* hotel in the center of the city, HB)
Festival Package №2 includes:
  • 4 nights accommodation in DBL/TWIN rooms at 4* hotel with own bathroom
  • 4 buffet breakfast, 4 dinner (including 1 friendship party dinner)
  • St. Petersburg city sightseeing guided tour by bus
  • Airport-hotel-airport transfer
  • Participation in public concerts with other groups
  • Transportation to the concert venues, if necessary
  • Participation in one category of the contest
  • Festival souvenirs, diplomas and prizes.
  • One free leader for a group of 21 participants (20+1)

Participation fee doesn’t include:

  • Accommodation in SGL rooms is available upon request at an extra fee.
  • Extra nights available upon request at an extra fee.
  • To participate in supplementary categories artists should pay participation fee:
  • Soloists, duets – 22 euro.
  • Other participants 10 euro per person.
Approved groups pay in advance a 30% guarantee fee, which is to be deducted at the final payment.
In case of refusal to participate in the festival the guarantee fee is not refund. The Organizing Committee will send the bank details upon receiving the application form.

Travel & visa terms:

  • Every participant should cover the expense of the international flight to and from St. Petersburg.
  • Every participant of the festival must have Travel Insurance to cover medical and accidental coverage during the period of the festival.
  • Each participating group is responsible for its own visa to Russia. Invitations for visa are available upon payment of 30% guarantee fee which is not refundable.
  • The recommended arrival date for participating groups to St. Petersburg is April 05, 2018 by 14:00 afternoon.
  • The recommended departure date is April 09, 2018 by 12:00 afternoon.
  • Participants may extend their stay in St. Petersburg at an extra fee.
Other terms:
By their participation in the festival, collectives and soloists give their consent to the right to record their performances on audio/video and broadcast them on television channels or use by other means.
For participants wishing to visit Moscow or other tour sights, guided tours are organized upon preliminary requests.

St. Petersburg city sightseeing tour.
Opening of the IV International Folklore Festival "Keeping traditions”. Festival concert.
April 7
Competitive performances.
Friendship party. Workshops. Gift-exchange.
April 8
Competitive performances.
Festival Closing Ceremony. Awarding. Gala-concert.
April 9
Check out up to 12:00. Departure of the participants.

To participate in the Festival, you need to send the following:
• Fill in the Application form 
• Short CV on the participant (no more than 10 lines)
• Send a complete list of participants verified by a group leader (attached)
• Send a scanned copy of participants' international passport
• Send 2 photos of your folk group of good quality (the minimum size of photos should be 2 MB in jpeg)
The number of participants is limited. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2018.
 
Any group willing to participate must submit an Application form.
Approved groups pay in advance a 10% guarantee fee, which is to be deducted at the final payment.
