More than 90 folklore collectives with more than 2000 performers from dozens of countries from all over the world, including Indonesia, Iran, Georgia, Armenia, Croatia, Russia, Turkey and more, and ensembles from all ethnographic regions of Bulgaria, will take part in the IV World Championship of Folklore „World folk 2014”. This large forum starts on 21 August and will end on 31 August, as it will take place in the region of the South Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Organizers of the Championship are: World Association of Folklore Festivals ­ WAFF, European Association of Folklore Festivals ­ EAFF and World Folklore Academy. Seven concerts with duration of 5­6 hours will take place on the stages of Burgas and the resorts Obzor and St. Vlas.

 

The official opening of the forum will be on 22 August at 19:30 in Amphitheater „Arena” in St. Vlas, and official guests of the event will be Mrs. Tsatsral Baatar, director of the

Organization ArtLar House and Mr. Ijilmurun Batbayar from Mongolia.The program of the Championship includes accompanying events, like: parade of the performers, which will take place on 28 August in Obzor, a retrospective photo exhibition, which presents moments and persons from previous championships, workshops and more. A competent jury, chaired by prof. Nikolay Kravtsov, Dean of the Faculty of folk instruments at the State University of Culture and Arts in St. Petersburg, will evaluate the participants, and their assessments are valid for ranking in the World rank list (World ranking list of folklore). The criteria on which teams will be evaluated are: quality, degree of complexity of the compositions, stage presence and vision.

 

During the competition programs will be awarded golden, silver and bronze medals, certificates and diplomas for continuity between generations, for preservation and development of

world folk arts, for discovery of the championship and more. The best performers will receive a nomination Golden “Orpheus” and will compete for the big title Absolute World Champion of

Folklore 2014 and for the Grand Prix, in the amount of 1,000 Euro. The favorite of the the jury will be awarded during the closing Gala concert of the Championship, which will take place on 30 August. Championship will be published in the tourist­information site „Peika.bg”. By tradition, media partner of the forum will be the internet television Eurofolk TV, which will broadcast live

concerts of the scenes with the most modern system of HD ­ TV equipment at tv.eurofolk.com. The best concert performances will be included in folk shows on the television as well as 60­

minute overview film "World folk 2014". For the first time, in this edition of the Championship will be organized a video sharing and broadcasting of news and reports in TV newscasts across

Bulgaria. There are already confirmed interests from various regional electronic media that will benefit from the latest information about the Championship.
