On September 27th, Veliko Tarnovo hosted a round table on the subject "Institutes of BAS in Veliko Tarnovo - trends and prospects" dedicated on the 150th anniversary of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. President of the European Association of Folklore Festivals - EAFF, Mr Kaloyan Nikolov took part in the event that was held in the Museum of the Bulgarian Revival and Constituent Assembly. He had the opportunity to discuss current issues related to BAS's role in society and in particular the development of the academic and cultural life of Veliko Tarnovo. Emphasis was placed on the enlarging of the material base of the institutions of BAS, which in 1988 have been formed and started working under the leadership of Iliyan Nikolov - the first president of the European Association of Folklore Festivals. The final phase for opening a unit of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with the Ethnographic Museum (IEFEM) in Veliko Turnovo was also discussed.
Representatives of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences were: Corresponding Member Kostadin Ganev - deputy chairman of BAS; Petar Kenderov, academician; Dimitar Dimitrov, academician; Petko Hristov; Assoc. Prof. Dr - director of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with the Ethnographic Museum (IEFEM); Petar Boyvalenkov, Prof. Doctor of Mathematical Sciences - Deputy director of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics
(IMI); Lyudmila Kabaivanova, Assoc. Prof. Dr - Scientific secretary at the Stefan Angelov Institute of Microbiology and members of the Institute of Robotics (IR).
Persons from the academic institutions of St. St. Cyril and Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo also took part in the round table: Milko Palangurski, Prof. Doctor of Economics and Tsenka Ivanova, Prof. Dr, Georgi Kamarashev, Prof. Dr from the Vasil Levski National Military University (deputy mayor of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality).
The program of the meeting also included speeches by the management of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, directors and deputy directors of institutes, congratulations from the local academic and cultural communities, as well as the presentation of BAS units in Veliko Turnovo. The Academic Forum was organized by the Regional Academic Center in Veliko Turnovo, which coordinates the cooperation with the local structures of BAS with leadership of prof. Stefka Buyuklieva.
