Festival of Church chants "St Dimitar" will be held on the eve of the Orthodox holiday - Dimitrovden (the day of Saint Demetrius) for the first time in 2020. In the period 22 - 25 October, 2020 Veliko Tarnovo will welcome choirs and they will perform at the most emblematic historical churches not only for the town but for Bulgaria - the churches "Church of Saint Demetrius", "Holy Forty Martyrs Church" and the "Patriarchal Cathedral" in the Tsarevets fortress. According to the folklore beliefs, Saint Demetrius is the patron saint of the cold, and with the celebration of the musical festival, all adherents of this kind of musical art will also welcome the start of the winter season. The purpose of the forum is to preserve and pass the tradition of chants, which, since ancient church history and the dawn of Christianity, have been an integral part of worship services for believers. Choirs for church chants, individual performers and duets may participate in the competition program. The competitive nature of the event creates the opportunity to become a Winner, to receive diplomas, certificates, prizes, and the best performances will be rewarded with free video recording. The criteria you need to meet in order to win the recognition of a reputable jury are expressed in the level of complexity and technique of performance, the way of presentation (costumes, staging, choice of repertoire) and stage behavior. During your participation in the Festival, organizers can invite you to take part in accompanying events such as official opening, official closing ceremonies, parade, cocktail party and others. Euro Folk Academy, Event Vacation and Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo organize the event under the auspices of the European Association of Folklore Festivals - EAFF within the frames of Musical Feasts "Euro Folk". You can apply for participation and become part of the first edition of the Festival of Church chants "St Dimitar" presenting this kind of musical art that accompanies a person in his moments of joy, admiration, labor, sorrow and sadness.
