The eleventh edition of the Balkan Championship of Folklore "Euro Folk - Jiva Voda" 2023 was officially open. This year the event is attended by more than 150 folklore groups and individual performers. For the 11th time, the Bulgarian town of Hisarya is becoming a center of folklore art in the period from 1st to 5th of June. Groups and participants from all the ethnographic regions of Bulgaria will present themselves on the stage of the "Ivan Vazov 1904" Community center. The winner of the Championship will receive the Grand prix Golden "Orpheus", the title Absolute Balkan Champion of Folklore in 2023, as well as a money prize in the sum of 1,000 leva, provided by the Municipality of Hisarya. The official opening ceremony will be held on the first day of the Championship and its program will continue until 21 o'clock. On June 3, the program starts at 12:30 until 21 o'clock, and on June 4 you can enjoy the competition program from 12 to 17:30 o'clock. Concerts may be watched live on the digital channels of EAFF - European Association of Folklore Festivals. The parade of participants on the central streets of Hisarya up to "Ivan Vazov" Community center will start at 18:00 on June 3 - Saturday. Folklore performers will present a short program in front of the Community center. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the adopting the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the audience and participants will be able to explore the Exhibition of the Regional center 2 Sofia - UNESCO, named "A journey through the living traditions - the intangible cultural heritage of Southeast Europe". The exhibition is located in the lobby of the "Ivan Vazov" Community center. The jury of the competition is in the following composition: Mr. Rangel Nedelchev - director of the Balkan Championship of Folklore "Euro folk - Jiva voda", long-time choreographer of the Dance club "Hisarski ritmi" and member of the management team of the "Ivan Vazov 1904" Community center; Dr. Natalia Rashkova - ethnomusicologis, doctor of art studies, associate professor at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore with the Ethnographic Museum at the BAS, university lecturer; Mrs. Mariana Nutsova - ethnologist and program director of the main media partner of the Championship - EuroFolkTV; Maestro Georgi Yankov - musical expert and choir conductor; and Mr. Valentin Halvadzhiev - choreographer. The special guest of the Championship is Sherkhan Muhambetzhanov - teacher at the National Kazakh Conservatory "Kurmangaz" - city of Almaty, Kazakhstan (ethnomusicologist). Organizers of the Balkan Championship of Folklore are the Municipality of Hisarya, the "Ivan Vazov 1904" Community center - Hisarya and the Euro Folk Academy. The Championship is held under the auspices of the European Association of Folklore Festivals - EAFF and with the financial and logistical support of the Municipality of Hisarya.
