On February 21-22, 2025, the ninth edition of the scientific seminar “Thracians, Wine, and Culture” was held at the Archaeological Complex “Valley of the Thracian Kings” (Shipka, Kazanlak Municipality). The event brought together scholars, researchers, and experts in the field of Thracian heritage to discuss important topics related to ancient culture and its connection to the present. Mr. Kaloyan Nikolov, President of the European Association of Folklore Festivals (EAFF), presented modern approaches to preserving and promoting cultural traditions. He emphasized the significance of folklore festivals as a means of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage and fostering cultural exchange. A special focus was placed on the role of technology in the development of cultural tourism and the opportunities that digitalization offers for presenting traditions to a wider audience. The seminar was inaugurated by the world-renowned archaeologist Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov and the Mayor of Kazanlak, Mrs. Galina Stoyanova. The opening featured an exhibition dedicated to Thracian rock structures and sanctuaries, followed by discussions on topics such as Thracian wine, archaeological discoveries, and the digitalization of cultural heritage. In early April, the “Folklore Table” program, filmed by the Eurofolk TV team, will broadcast an extended video report on the event, including highlights from the seminar as well as traditional local cuisine recipes.
