From September 26 to October 5, 2025, the picturesque South Korean city of Andong will once again transform into a stage of magic, where masks come to life and cultures merge into one – during the 29th edition of the Andong International MaskDance Festival & Competition. This iconic event, supported by the City of Andong and the highest cultural institutions of the Republic of Korea, is more than just a festival – it is a global stage, a celebration of boundless creativity, and an encounter with the spirit of millennia-old traditions. With over 1.2 million spectators annually and the participation of nearly 30 embassies and 15 mayors from around the world, the festival doesn’t just showcase global culture – it celebrates it. At the heart of it all lies the universal theme for 2025: “Dance of Masks: In Search of Many Faces.” A theme that invites performers from around the world to tell their stories and express their emotions through dance, mime, martial arts, and more – with just one main requirement: at least half of the performance must be done wearing a mask or face painting, reflecting the spirit of the festival. Andong – a city with a 3,000-year history, even visited by the Queen of the United Kingdom – offers participants not only a unique stage but also a cultural journey into the heart of South Korea. The organizers cover all in-country expenses – including accommodation, meals, transport, and tour guides – and even provide a daily pocket allowance and opportunities to join parades, exhibitions, and friendly parties with groups from all over the world. And if you love challenges – the competition segment of the festival awaits you with major cash prizes and global recognition. It’s time to tell your story… behind a mask. Are you ready to represent your country in front of millions in the Republic of Korea? Applications are open until September 10, 2025.
