From 7 to 11 May 2026, Veliko Tarnovo will once again be the center of Bulgarian traditions. As part of the Musical Festivals “Euro Folk,” the city will host the 16th Bulgarian National Championship of Folklore “Euro Folk 2026” – a nationally ranked event and a key part of the Championship System of the European Association of Folklore Festivals (EAFF). Alongside it, the Stara Planina Festival “Balkan Folk” and the World Cup of Folklore™ – Veliko Tarnovo will also take place.

The championship brings together performers from across the country and abroad, offering the opportunity to qualify for the World Folklore Ranking. Participants compete in various categories – from authentic songs and dances to modern arrangements and folklore ensembles. The evaluation is carried out by an authorized EAFF jury based on clearly defined criteria for technique, stage presence, and artistic performance.

The “Euro Folk” Musical Festivals have a long-standing tradition, and the emblematic Stara Planina Festival “Balkan Folk” is the largest traditional folk arts event in Europe. Every year, thousands of singers, musicians, and dancers present the richness of Bulgarian and global folklore. All performances are professionally recorded, and the best are broadcast on Bulgarian and international TV channels, providing a strong platform for promoting the participants.

The championship program includes an official opening, parade, competition concerts, accompanying events, and an award ceremony. Winners receive medals, diplomas, special distinctions, and the top performers are honored with the prestigious Grand Prix Golden “Orpheus.”

The festival provides a stage for cultural exchange, new partnerships, and a powerful showcase of traditions to a wide audience in Bulgaria and around the world.
