From 23 to 27 July 2026, Stara Zagora will host the International Folklore Festival Stara Zagora 2026—an international cultural event showcasing the richness of folklore traditions through music, dance, and performing arts. The festival is held under the motto “The Path of the Sun,” a symbol of the living connection between the ancient roots of folk culture and its contemporary development. Located in the heart of Thrace, Stara Zagora naturally stands out as a cultural crossroads and a stage for the meeting of diverse traditions. The event is non-competitive and open to folklore dance and vocal groups, ensembles, instrumental formations, as well as children’s, youth, and mixed groups from different countries. The program includes a parade procession, an official opening and concert at the Ancient Forum of Augusta Traiana, festival evenings at the Summer Theatre, and an open seminar on Balkan dances led by established choreographers. The International Folklore Festival Stara Zagora 2026 is organized by the Municipality of Stara Zagora, Euro Folk Academy, and the Zagore Ensemble within the framework of the Euro Folk Music Festivals, under the auspices of the European Association of Folklore Festivals—an ICH partner of UNESCO. The concert programs will be broadcast live via the EAFF and EurofolkTV streaming channels. Folklore formations wishing to participate may submit applications to join the festival program and become part of the cultural Path of the Sun.
