From May 1 to May 14, 2026, the Regional Library “P. R. Slaveykov” and the Museum “Revival and Constituent Assembly” present the exhibition “Living Human Treasures – Bulgaria”. The exhibition showcases elements included in the National Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Bulgaria for the period 2008–2024, drawing attention to living traditions and the bearers of cultural memory. The National Representative List began to be developed following UNESCO’s adoption of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and reflects Bulgaria’s commitment to preserving its living traditions. The exhibition is the work of a team of scholars from the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, including Corresponding Member, Professor, Doctor of Art Studies Mila Santova, Chief Assistant Dr. Milena Lyubenova, and Architect Dr. Mirella Kafkova. It has been realized with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture. The presentation of the exhibition in Veliko Tarnovo is part of the initiatives of the Organizing Committee of the 29th Stara Planina National Festival “Balkan Folk”, which will take place from May 7 to 11, 2026, within the framework of the Musical Holidays “Euro Folk”, with the support of the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo. The “Euro Folk” Musical Holidays are held under the auspices of the European Association of Folklore Festivals (EAFF) – an accredited organization with consultative status to the Intergovernmental Committee of UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The exhibition “Living Human Treasures – Bulgaria” offers residents and visitors of the city the opportunity to experience the richness of Bulgarian traditions and explore their contemporary expressions.
