“ASIA FOLK 2024” FOLKLORE AND HANDCRAFT FESTIVAL
 
ORGANIZERS:

VENUE:
“Sukhbaatar”, the main square of Ulaanbaatar city

Regulations:

To enter the festival participants must be accredited, which is realized under the following conditions:
Folklore artists, groups and ensemble:
  • Those who wish to take part in the festival must fill-in application form.
  • The collectives, who apply for participation, must have obtained prestigious awards from other festivals; the awards should be notified in the application form.
  • All participants are to make their own travel arrangements to and from Ulaanbaatar and pay for their travel expenses.
  • A team of participants can be consisted of artists and their accompanying non-artist participants. The number of people in one team is not limited.
  • During the festival, participants may be invited by the organizers to take part in joint events – Official opening, Official closing, parade, accompanying concerts, cocktail, master class, or others. The presence of invited teams in such events is required.
  • The application forms should be sent not later than April 01, 2024.
  • The participants pay the specified prices for participation in the “Asia Folk 2024”. The advanced payment is 40% from the total amount for the participation of the group. It is payable after approval of participation, but not late of April 10, 2024. That condition is in order to booking in high tourism season.
  • Participants should send demos of two performances or links to videos, posted on YouTube and 2 photos in good quality. The photo should not be less than 1 MB. Those will be used for the festival promotional contents. Participants should own copyright of the videos and photos.
  • Ensembles or choirs will pay 50 euro for each solo and duet performance in additional category. 
  • The festival participation fee includes 5 nights stay in **** hotel /2- 4 pax in one room/, breakfast, dinner, translator guide and all transportation services, to and from airport and venue.

Categories:

The contest system includes the following categories:
A) Folklore songs groups, authentic folklore (choirs and ensembles)
B) Folklore songs groups, modern arrangement of folklore music; - (choirs and ensembles)
C) Folklore dances groups, authentic folklore; (folklore dance groups, ensembles)
D) Folklore dances groups; modern choreography (folklore dance groups, ensembles)
E) Folklore mix ensembles -  Authentic performances; (live vocal, instrumental and dance)
F) Folklore mix ensembles -  Processed performances; (live vocal, instrumental and dance)
G) Folklore Instrumental groups; folklore music (ensembles and orchestras)
H) Folklore customs group ; replica (folklore groups, ensembles)
 I ) Group for old urban songs; (groups, ensembles)
 
-individual performers and duets can participate in all categories except E,F,H;
-for all categories there is also ranking of children up to 18 years. /maximum 30% of children group members can be adults/
 
Formations that can be accepted in the competition program:
• folklore ensembles, song and dance groups;
• choirs;
• clubs for folk dances;
• groups for old urban songs;
• music bands and folk orchestras;
• individual performers and duets;

Jury:

The jury committee consists of 5-7 international members.
The jury evaluates participants by the following criteria:
   1. Artistry and quality of performance
   2. Vision /costumes, props, staging/
   4. Stage manners /behavior on stage, gestures, contact with the audience, spirit emanation/
The program duration of the separate groups / participants should not exceed:
  • Songs - up to 10 minutes
  • Dances - up to 10 minutes
  • Ensemble performances – up to 15 minutes
  • Solo and duet performance – up to 5 minutes
The jury is entitled to reduce the overall assessment for non-compliance of regulations.
The marks of the participants appeared in the folklore competition program of the “Asia Folk 2024” are valid for ranking in the World ranking list of folklore.

Awards:

-1st prize winner of the “Asia of Folk 2024” will receive Grand Prix, Gold cup, Diploma for and also cash prize of 10 000 000 tugrug /appr 3000 euro/
- 2nd prize winner will receive Silver cup and cash prize of 7 000 000 tugrug /appr 2000 euro/
- 3nd prize winner will receive Bronze cup and cash prize of 4 000 000 tugrug /appr 1000 euro/
 
In each category, according to total scores, evaluated by the jury team participants will receive:
Laureate I degree (Gold medal) - from 150.01 to 180.00 scores
Laureate II degree (Silver medal)   - from 120,01 to 150.00 scores
Laureate III degree (Bronze medal) - from  90.01 to 120.00 scores
Diploma winner (Diploma)     -   up to   90.00 scores
The number of diplomas for the laureates is not limited.
Some special jury prizes will be announced at the award ceremony of the festival.  

General conditions:

The participant should cover all bank fees for relevant money transfer.
Participants do not get paid for their performance during the festival.
The festival organizers will have copyright to use video, audio and photo materials of participants performance during the festival for purpose of making the festival content, which will be promoted on TV and social media channels.
All filled in and signed applications will mean acceptance of the above-mentioned terms of the festival regulation.
 
Handcraft artists or sellers:
  • Those who wish to take part in the festival must fill-in application form.
  • No competition program will be organized in handcraft category.
  • All participants are to make their own travel arrangements to and from Ulaanbaatar and pay for their travel expenses.
  • Participants will show and sell his/her handcraft products in the handcrafts fair tent, provided by the festival. The organizers will not take any commission or fee.
  • Participants must use Mongolian currency, tugrug for selling. In the end of the festival organizers can help them to change tugrug into foreign currency /euro, USD, yuan, yen or won/ if participants wish.
  • A team of participants can be consisted of handcraft artists and their accompanying non-artist participants. The number of people in one team is not limited.
  • Except handcraft artists, handcraft shop owners or sellers can take part in the festival.
  • All participants must wear their traditional costumes during all events of the festival. Handcraft fair is also one part of the festival event.
  • During the festival, participants may be invited by the organizers to take part in joint events – Official opening, Official closing, parade, master class, or others. The presence of invited teams in such events is required.
  • The application forms should be sent not later than April 01, 2024.
  • The participants pay the specified prices for participation in the “Asia Folk 2024” to the organizer. Bank details will be sent by email after receiving the registration form. The advanced payment is 40% from the total amount for the participation of the group. It is payable after approval of participation, but not late of April 10, 2024. That condition is in order to booking in high tourism season.
  • Participants should send 2 photos /good quality/ of their products and 1 video link to the email. The photo should not be less than 1 MB. Those will be used for the festival promotional contents. Participants should own copyright of these photos.
Items will be sold in the handcraft fair should be made 100% by hand using hand tools, not manufactured. Paper, wood, metal, leather, textile and all kind of materials can be used. The main purpose of the festival is to promote and support handcrafters, who is keeping, teaching and developing traditional handcraft making method and technique. Products, which is made in new design and style, using traditional method is also acceptable. For example, bags with traditional hand embroidery, X-mas tree toys, made by felt, scarf with hand painting or embroidery etc.

Registration fee:

REGISTRATION FEE (for participants and accompanying members)
  • 300 Euro per person
  • In a group of 25 people - 1 person for free
The registration fee INCLUDES:
  • 5 nights in **** hotel /2-4 pax in one room/
  • 5 breakfasts
  • 5 dinners
  • Transport –city and transfer from and to airport "Chinggis Khan"

2024.06.18 – Departure
The schedule is a draft and can be changed before the festival.
 

Any group willing to participate must submit an Application form.

As a second step: The advanced payment is 40% from the total amount for the whole group. It is payable after approval of participation, but not late of April 10, 2024. Rest amount must be transferred via the mentioned bank account 14 days before the registration day of the festival in Mongolia. Or can be paid in cash at the registration.
