Aim and objectives:

The VIII International Folklore Festival “Keeping traditions” (hereinafter referred to as the Festival) is held with the aim of popularizing the folk art, preserving the multinational cultural heritage of Russia. The idea of ​​the festival is the development of public diplomacy and the establishment of friendship and peace on earth through music and dance.
The festival contributes to the strengthening of civil peace and interethnic harmony and is aimed at developing and strengthening friendly cultural ties between creative teams from different countries.
The objectives of the festival:
  • Identification and promotion of the best folk artists
  • Improving the professional skills of group directors and teachers
  • Development of friendship, mutual understanding and cultural cooperation between the creative teams of the Russian Federation and foreign countries
  • Education of the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism and the formation of mutual respect for the cultural traditions and customs of other ethnic groups

Conditions:

  • Children, youth and adult dance ensembles, choral groups, vocal ensembles and soloists, instrumental groups, as well as performers of other creative genres are invited to participate in the festival.
  • The age of the participants is 5 years and older.
  • Applicants are admitted to the festival after paying the registration fee. The festival-competition is held both off-line (in person) or online.
  • Regardless of the form of participation, all participants, together with the application, are requested to send a link to their video performance on You Tube to participate in the online Voting for the Audience Choice Award. According to the results of online Voting the Winner is announced on March 26 at the Awarding Ceremony.
  • Each participant performs 1 competition piece.
  • The duration of the performance is no more than 4 minutes. For theaters and folklore rituals - the duration of the performance is up to 10 minutes.
  • Folk dances and rituals, songs and music based on the folk material of any region or any country, both in authentic performance and in modern processing are most welcomed.
  • The Jury does not take into account the age, material capabilities, social affiliation, nationality and place of residence of the contestants - only creativity on absolutely equal conditions in accordance with this regulation.
  • All participants are accommodated in the festival hotel provided by the Organizing Committee.
  • The competition program is sent to the e-mail of the participants 5 days before the start of the festival.
  • Technical equipment of the hall and accommodation of participants in the dressing rooms will be arranged according to the possibility of the venue.
  • The Organizing committee of the festival is not responsible for the personal belongings of the participants. Please do not leave personal belongings unattended!
Special conditions due to COVID-19:
  • The festival is held in compliance with all recommendations of Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare).
  • All participants and accompanying persons must wear masks during the festival (except performing on stage).
  • The organizers of the festival have the right to amend the restrictive measures, as well as cancel the festival or reschedule the dates of the festival, depending on the epidemiological situation

In each age group, performers of a different age are allowed, but not more than 30% of the total number of performers.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Complexity and technique of execution
  • Artistic impression (image creation, content disclosure, emotionality, artistry)
  • Presentation (costume, props, direction, musical accompaniment, selection of repertoire, stage design)

Rewarding:

Organization of the prize fund is entrusted to the organizing committee of the festival. Any organization or individual is allowed to make charitable contributions to the festival and establish their own prizes.
The Grand Prix is ​​awarded to the Best Children's Performer and the Best Adult Performer with the most votes from the Jury members.
In each nomination and age category, the titles of laureates of I, II, III degrees, as well as the titles of diplomats of I, II, III degrees are awarded.
The Grand Prix winner is ​​awarded a diploma, a cup along with the Certificate for participation in the final II International Award for Performing Arts “Folk-Star” (December 9-11, 2022, Moscow) without payment of the registration fee.
Laureates of I, II and III degrees (from 1 to 4 performers) are awarded a diploma and a festival medal for each participant.
Laureates of I, II and III degrees (from 5 performers) are awarded a diploma and a cup for the team, a festival medal for each participant.
Diploma winners of I, II and III degrees are awarded a diploma and a festival medal for each participant.
The number of laureates and diplomants is not limited, as there is a qualification system for evaluating contestants, and not comparing them with each other.
Laureates of the I degree are awarded personal invitations to the final 2nd International Award for Performing Arts “Folk-Star” (December 9-11, 2022, Moscow).
The European Association of Folklore Festivals rewards the best participants with Certificates from 200 to 500 euros for participation in the European or World Championships of Folklore in Bulgaria.
The best participants are invited to participate in tours or festivals in Russia and abroad on a free or preferential basis.
The Jury reserves the right not to award prizes and to change the number of prizes.

  • 190 Euro per person - 4 days/3 nights in St.Petersburg 
  • 220 Euro per person - 5 days/4 nights in St.Petersburg

Notes:
All travel expenses to St. Petersburg and back are borne by the participants of the festival or the delegating organizations.

Any group willing to participate must submit an Application form.
Approved groups pay in advance a 10% guarantee fee, which is to be deducted at the final payment.

As a next step: Prepayment of 50% is made to the Organizer's account within 3 days after receiving of the confirmation and invoice, which serves as the grounds to book the festival hotel.
Full payment for the festival accommodation package is due by March 5, 2022. In case of refusal to participate in the festival less than 14 days before the start, the registration fee and 50% prepayment for the festival package are not refundable.

In case of refusal to participate due to force majeure circumstances relating to the participant, the refund is made minus the actual expenses incurred and taking into account the penalties of the hotel, if there is a document (in case of illness - sick leave).
